We keep this simple because our data practices are simple. Selyn does not run ad networks, sell data, or build profiles on you. This page explains the little we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Selyn website at https://selyn.studio
Who we are
Selyn is an independent design studio based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. For anything to do with your privacy or your data, you can reach us at hello@selyn.studio. We are the party responsible for the information described here.
What we collect and why
When you send a project brief
The contact form asks for your name, your email, an optional company name, a short description of your project, and a budget range. We use this only to read your enquiry and reply to it. When you submit the form it is delivered to our studio inbox, with your email set as the reply-to so we can respond directly. If that delivery ever fails, the form falls back to opening your own email app with the message pre-filled, so nothing you wrote is lost. We do not add you to a marketing list, and we do not sell or share your brief.
When you simply visit
Unless you turn it off in our consent banner, we measure traffic with a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool. It gives us aggregate, non-identifying numbers, such as which pages are read and roughly where visits come from, and it does not set cookies, does not fingerprint you, and does not track you across other sites. It is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time from the consent banner or cookie settings.
Technical data
To serve the site and protect it from abuse and attacks, our hosting and security providers process limited technical information such as IP addresses and request details. This is standard hosting and security processing, handled on our behalf. It is not used to identify you, profile you, or track you across other sites.
Our legal basis
We are based in Canada and follow Canadian privacy law, the federal PIPEDA and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We rely on your consent when you choose to send us a brief, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and understanding, in aggregate, how it is used. If you visit from the EU or the UK, the same principles apply, and our consent banner lets you record your choices in the GDPR sense.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, only as needed to run the site and under their own strong privacy commitments:
- A hosting and content-delivery provider that serves the site and defends it against attacks.
- An email provider that carries your project brief to our inbox.
- A privacy-first analytics provider, on by default unless you opt out, that gives us aggregate, cookieless figures and cannot identify you.
We choose providers for their privacy and security practices rather than for tracking or advertising, and we may change providers over time without changing what we described above. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others. That is the exception, not the routine.
How long we keep it
We keep your project brief and our correspondence for as long as we need it to answer you and, if we end up working together, for the life of that relationship plus a reasonable period for our records. If nothing comes of an enquiry, we delete it when it is no longer useful. Analytics data is aggregate and not tied to you. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
International transfers
Because our providers operate globally, your information may be processed on servers outside your country, including in Canada, the United States, and elsewhere. Where that happens, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards for the data they handle.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Withdraw consent you have given, including for the contact form.
- Object to or ask us to restrict a particular use, where the law provides for it.
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@selyn.studio. We will respond within the time the law requires. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to your local data protection authority.
Security
We use reputable infrastructure and sensible safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is ever perfectly secure, but we take real care with the little we collect, and we keep the surface small on purpose.
Children
This site is aimed at businesses and professionals, not children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Cookies and local storage
The site is essentially cookieless. The only thing we store in your browser is your consent choice, so we can remember it. The full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here rather than buried, because the whole point of this page is to be straight with you.
